Hi, all. I was on FB just now.. but needed to logoff to take a shower, but first wanted to get your advices on something, and it you think that this is OK/or wise for me to get into on FB with one my friends.


OK, so I was just looking at my news feed and noticed one of my friends, who's a mom, uploaded an link to a story via Facecrooks (Facecrooks is a social media blog that covers privacy and security issues). Her post was titled "Why -BLANK- (her kid) isn't allowed to use the internet until she's 30. lol Sick people out there..."

The responses on her post and on the Facecrooks page is all of the same, we all heard it before. Her reply to another person was:

"... I mean you can always screen their facebook, but how do you decide whether or not the kids/teens on their list aren't just kids from school or if they are really some old perv?"

My first reply to hers was: "talk to ur kids, if u have a good relationship w/them their problly tell u if something wrong.. banning them from soc networks isnt the answer. my 2 cents, -name blanked-".

Then, her response was all the same, as I've and we hear it all before: "Do you have a daughter?" (you know, that sort of thing lol).

My reply was: "no but anyone can have opinions, cant they" (I really thought I gave a good 2 cents in but guess still I do not have a child.. I can't have a say in this convo haha).

My follow-up reply was: "i hear this argument lots n it makes no sense.. ppl who comment usually have no kinds of their own, some do but one can still input their thoughts"

Then her response was: "Yes, of course you can have opinions, everyone is entitled to them. But if you had a daughter, and you knew about the dangers on the internet, you wouldn't think twice about being overly cautious. It's better to be safe than sorry, is it not?"

She then made reference to something that I posted but ended up deleting: "As for me saying I wouldn't let her on the internet until she was 30, that was clearly meant to be taken as an exaggeration. I was joking."

My few last replies: "u can still be cautious and be aware of things going on. ya i det that 1 caz i rethought" And "i think ppl who r overly protective n not let their kids on soc sites or net etc are probs i think we need more education, informing kids so will b able to make up their own mind. that what youth lib is all bout"


I was gonna go on but decided not to push it, as I really don't think she the best person to have this convo with. I did start it and also didn't mean to start a whole thing with her but felt I wanted to have my say in it. Or course, I maybe should've just made a comment on the Facecrooks page instead? Your thoughts...?
