Speaking of Facebook creeps
Posted by Alex Asimov on 2012-January-14 19:44:04 EST, SaturdayI belong to the first generation that grew up with the Internet, which might make me younger than a lot of the people here (at least, I haven't seen too many posts that mention being eight 9-11 years ago). My parents were very liberal with what I was allowed to do in terms of technology, I had an Internet connected computer in my room when I was in grade one or two. Around grade five though, I no longer had that and had to use a computer in a public area, but the computer was still mine and my parents never looked through my stuff or any of that crap that parents seem to like to do.
When I was thirteen (~four-six years ago) some friends and I started using this social networking site (this was prefacebook, the site also wasn't myspace, but I'm not sure whether or not it existed at the time). I met a lot of people there, including some super cute girls, which is pretty awesome when you're a nerdy introverted thirteen year old boy.
Here are some of the interesting people I met via this site:
- She was a year younger than me and really really cute. There was nothing particularly exciting between us, but I liked her a lot. She was the person I was in contact with the longest, but I haven't spoken to her in two or three years.
- Another girl, who may have been a year older than me, though I can't remember. I didn't talk to her for too long, but I remember one time she asked me if I'd ever made porn of myself (no, have you?), she had, apparently. I never saw the pictures, but I'd seen a picture of her fully clothed. She was fairly attractive. I was going to wait until I knew her better to ask for them, but I guess we lost interest in each other and stopped talking.
- This time a guy, an older guy, and this is the reason why I called the thread Facebook creeps. He was in his late twenties when I talked to him. He added me randomly, which was the norm on that site and we started to talk. I don't remember what we talked about, but he was openly gay, which didn't bother me at all. He lived about a four hour drive away from me. He used his full name, but I'm not sure now if it was his real name (I believe that it was). He was cool to talk to, but he drank a lot and would often message me at night while he was drunk, and we had some uncomfortable conversations. He told me that he wanted to have sex with me, and this didn't really bother me (I didn't see anything wrong with it), but I reminded him that I'm not into guys etc etc. This started to happen more and more often and it made me feel uncomfortable just because he was so persistent when he knew I wasn't interested. But, he would always apologize the next day when he was sober. But, then he would do it again and again. So, I blocked him for a while, and then unblocked him and we talked for a while and then he'd do it again. This happened many times until I just didn't unblock him. I remember he told me one time that he'd had sex with a fourteen year old boy the night before, and he felt like he was a bad person because this was at the time that the conservatives were talking about raising the AoC to 16 (sex with a fourteen year old was legal under Canadian law at the time and the AoC wasn't raised to sixteen until 2008). I think we talked a few times about meeting up, but we never did. He was a pretty cool guy though, I doubt he would have done anything against my will, but I might have experimented.
