Whilst I have a distaste for the 'do you have kids?' argument - on the basis that it's pretty lame; I know a mechanic who doesn't have a car, doesn't mean she doesn't know about her job, though - I feel that you've eloquently placed your opinion, and from what the lady has said, she does seem to have taken it on board, whilst putting across her own opinion.
And, the 'won't let my daughter on the web until she's 30' thing - take it from me, that was a parental joke. I hear that sort of thing all the time from parents, who then smile and have a little chuckle at it afterward. It's not meant & all said in jest, old boy, trust me.
That said, there is nothing wrong about pushing the message of education for kids and emphasising ways that they can keep themselves safe. Without over-supervising them, we want safe happy kids, and I see nothing wrong with providing any help in that. As I'm sure NFiH would agree, everyone should surf safe (hey, I'm sorry for stealing your catchphrase, NFiH...).
This isn't said as some PR stunt - we really do need to make sure that children don't fall victim to some really twisted person out there who will hurt them, imo.
And to that end, sure, I might go ahead and make a comment to that effect. Why not - what harm could that do, eh?
There are no fences, only meeting points of thought...
TTFN,
Tril.
