I understand that parents are concerned. They wouldn't be good parents if they didn't care. The problem there is that you should not let your concern trump your rationality [*], and there are rational, sensible ways to deal with every parental concern about socnets that I've ever read - and this one is an overreaction.

You are maybe right not to press it further; but if she answers I would reply on those terms.
