Don't get me wrong; it's well-written and probably fairly accurate in terms of how it portrays Humbert as a rather pathetic and deluded individual. I'm sure a lo of MAPs are exactly like Humbert. But I am nothing like Humbert and found the book a little uncomfortable to read. On the other hand, the descriptions of Delores Haze are exactly right. The book is fine, but I hated both film versions. The original was well-done but Lolita was far too old for the part and the movie shied away from some key stuff. The remake was of poorer quality, but Lolita looked closer to the proper age. I just don't think the English-speaking world can make this film properly. Forget the films of Lolita and catch Beau Pere instead--it is less exploitative and, in my estimation, portrays the adult in a much better light, although the girl is 14 rather than 12 (and still hotter than either of the models who played Lolita in the films.)
