Regardless (and I do mean regardless) of whether the story Laura is telling leans true or leans false... Americans and Europeans have opposite cultural concepts and visions on government. An American, Canadian or Latin American will tend to believe the worst about the government (and thus believe Laura here). A West European will tend to believe the best about the government (and thus dismiss Laura here). It's a bit like how a Christian will always differ in some concepts from an Atheist or from a Muslim through no fault of either.
