A step in the right direction, if nothing else

Let us keep in mind that Spike Lee's efforts to create a sympathetic portrayal of a pedophile may turn out to be merely an attempt to do so that is not successful or overly accurate. Nevertheless, a mere attempt, however unsuccessful it may turn out to be, can still be considered a step in the right direction. Due to the rampant ignorance regarding this subject throughout the media, we have to expect a series of missteps before a truly successful and non-judgmental portrayal of an MAA in a cinematic product is finally committed to celluloid. Lee noted that it's "hard" to portray a pedophile as a human being, even though we all know that it would have been far more accurate if what he said was, "It's difficult to convince the general viewership in the midst of today's hysteria and misinformation that a pedophile can actually be a fully realized human being rather than just a monster driven by uncontrollable lust for children." And I admit, the description of the scene involving the boy studying the Bible while being "molested" doesn't sound overly promising, but as Gatekeeper said, we should reserve judgment until we see exactly how Lee handled it.

At the very least, this film could foment interest in providing more understanding portrayals of pedophilia and hebephilia in cinema (possibly followed by the same in prose literature and television), with gradually less missteps and more success as time goes on, and for this, we should commend Lee for at least attempting to film something other than a stereotypical project designed to do nothing other than demonize MAAs and portray our attraction bases as evil incarnate.

Please note that after you guys see this movie, I am looking for any of you to pen a review for NewgonWiki, and this is particularly true for Gatekeeper and Summerdays, who have already provided some great film reviews for the Wiki.
