Although my Mom is an artist, I am definitely not. But I like imagery. So I cheat. I use software to take photographs and turn them into oil paintings, water colors, and sketches. The sig pic you see below is from an actual photograph! True, it's a simple silhouette, but getting that from me is a miracle.

You might try finding a photo that you like (the internet is jammed full of them if you look) and use PAINTIT or even some plugins for PhotoShop will do it.
