Children should also be looked in on as a mstter of course every so often when they are living with their parents.

Children who run away from home often realize that the situation has got worse. Do they face additional obstacles in coming back?

I don't have a problem with that morally, but financially and logistically it would be impossible to carry out. We would literally need an army of social workers to do that. Most kids will remain at home regardless of their rights, and generally speaking they will be just fine. The ones I'm most worried about are those kids who feel the need to run away in the first place. First, because they usually already have a troubled background (or else why run away?), and often these kids get mixed up in situations that might feel right or good to them initially but wind up being worse than where they started, as was the case with the twins in the story above. Many times they wind up in the streets.

What I want to know is, how did these kids wind up in that home for so long without anyone realizing they didn't legally belong there? No imagine that situation magnified a thousand-fold, which is likely what we'll get in a society with free-range kids, unless we can be sure we can be sure we got those kids' backs.
