There are not enough adoptive parents

Actually if you think about it there are a lot of people over the age of 18 who stay in abusive relationships and never ask for help. Although usually with a spouse not a parent.

There are a shortage of prospective adoptive parents for older children, there are thousands of older children in the united states who want to be adopted. Most of the adoptive parents are trying to get little (white) babies, which there just aren't enough of. Yes, they should have less restrictions on adoption, but if someone wants to adopt a child from foster care that's schoolage they would be able to get a child without needing to pay nearly as much as they do for international adoption or private adoption, because frankly most people don't want to adopt older kids who might be 'damaged'.
