You aren't fictional

This isn't a lifestyle. This is an orientation which expresses itself differently for different people. And its certainly not the totality of who you, or we, are.

In my case, Sci-Fi geek, history buff and retail employee contribute more to my "lifestyle" than my Pedophilia does.

Don't take your cues from media fictions.

Many of us knew, even before more information was available, that neither fiction, nor non-biased reportage were describing us in the media. When all the stories were about molesters, and yet we knew we were attracted to children while also knowing that we weren't capable of harming them, we knew at the very least that what was being proffered wasn't us. It wasn't a great leap to draw the conclusion that "I can't be the only one."

Now, thanks to the Internet, we not only know that we exist in fairly large numbers, but we can also analyze some of the sources for how we are misrepresented.

Would you expect a 20something male to watch a film and assume that a life of violent crime describes him regardless of what he knows about himself? "I may be in College majoring in Engineering, but I've seen enough gangster movies to know what lifestyle my demographic 'curses' me to."

The "ticking time bomb" and "zombie bite" theories are just rationalizations for why its OK to treat an innocent person like a violent criminal. They were no better when they were used as stereotypes against other minorities than they are against us.
