With every independence struggle in the world, there always are some good arguments against. It would be at least a little oversimplifying to pretend there are none in some case or another.

My small government instinct tells me that the smaller the entity the better - that alone is an argument that 99% of the time aligns me on the separatist side.

However there is a little known historical fact that is always forgotten on these debates:

No nation that has achieved secession has regretted it. Ever.

All the arguments against, all of them, are drowned when the taste of independence is tried.

Here's to Scotland, to Québec, to Tamil Eelam, to Kurdistan, to Katanga, to South Ossetia, to West Papua, to East Turkestan, and to the future rising of the South!
