'School of Hate'

"In "School of Hate: One Town's War on Gay Teens" reporter Sabrina Rubin Erdely writes about the plight of gay students in Michele Bachmann's home district...." [see Rolling Stone for more details]
"'The Anoka-Hennepin school district finds itself in the spotlight not only for the sheer number of suicides but because it is accused of having contributed to the death toll by cultivating an extreme anti-gay climate, Erdely writes."
This appears to be an assault upon our LGBT youth in this particular school district. Gay students apparently do not feel safe within their own schools. Bullying, shaming occurs daily. Even the teachers do not stand up for them out of fear of being fired. So the students have nowhere to turn. And all too often they turn up dead, as suicides.
The school district policy is stated clearly in the "No Homo Promo". The author of this policy said, "If gay kids weren't out of the closet in the first place, then they wouldn't be bullied." Talk about blaming the victims.
No young person should ever have to hide or be ashamed of who and what they are. No young person should ever be harassed or bullied because of who and what they are.
