I actually do agree with you about this. Beliefs do matter. It is difficult to be close to someone who is firm in holding false beliefs about you.

All the same, your mother loves you in her own way. If she didn't love you, she wouldn't have tried to contact you and she wouldn't care that you don't have insurance. From all your talk about abandoning your family, maybe you are the one who is short on love, even as they are short on understanding.

But don't give up on your family. I've seen it many times - families that could not understand one member's choices frequently come around, but it sometimes takes decades. Keep in touch. It's worth it.
