Neurolepts can cause many side effects, I hope nobody takes them without a good reason. But the simple truth is that they are the only effective way to treat schitzophrenia and some of its symptoms today, and no one should be told to discontinue the medication, if it is necessary: saying so is dangerous quackery.

If you disagree, you do not understand anything about schitzophrenia.

I have heard about a couple of persons who went to a mental hospital at a few years' intervals; after neurolepts were introduced, they never opened the mental hospital door any more.

My case? I don't consider myself a schitzophrenic. I may have a hereditary susceptibility to such things, but I can consider myself "normal" and I don't need any treatment or medicines. What Hieronymus said about "a heightened awareness" is interesting. I have a theory that in certain abnormal states -- schitzophrenia, a bad hangover -- your senses may really become more acute than normally, especially the hearing sense. Your radiator is making a very quiet, subliminal sound? Normally you don't even hear it, not even if you try to listen, but in certain circumstances it can become a roar.

Exactly the same can happen with your thoughts. Normally you do not "hear" them, but in some states they become louder, more accentuated, and finally you hear voices.
