These things are very difficult to give advice about.

It is easy to say that you should have total abscense when it comes to alcohol. Maybe that's what is needed if there are problems with addiction.

But these things are so difficult, so I chose to give some numbers, etc. Maybe it can be to some help to moderate the drinking?

For a male:

13 units a week is maybe safe. But that's still quite high alcohol intake a week. More than 13 units gives a moderate chance to get physical damage to the drinkers body. 40 units++ a week gives high risk for damage on the body, liver, etc.

So 1 unit is:

1 small bottle with beer, 330ml at 4.5% ABV, or
1 small glass of wine, 120 ml at 15 %ABV, or
1 small drink, 40ml liquor, vodka, etc, at 40% ABV.

So one unit or two units a day might be safe, if you only think about the physical aspect of drinking. It gives small chances for alcohol related damage to your body if this is done over longer periods. But of course, one never knows. It can still give damage.

If you drink more than that, it might increase the chance for physical damages on the liver, etc if you drink these amounts over longer periods. But maybe even smaller amounts can do so, too.

It might be safe to drink 500ml beer a day. But you would probably run the risk of becoming an alcoholic, even when drinking on this "moderate" level.

If you have alcoholic problems, any units is far too much!

"One bottle is too much, a hundred is not enough"...

I don't know if this is what you were thinking. But the physical aspect is of course also important. Not only the addiction, which is also important to think about, of course.

Someone told me to be addicted to alcohol is not feeling a thirst...
You will feel like nauseatic, flu-hangover-like symptoms. And it will leave when you get the first unit. (?) I guess others could tell a lot more about this than me.

Mixing other drugs together with alcohol is of course bad.

These things are not easy, and it's not easy to give advices.

People drink moderately for a whole life, and they live till they are 80. And they smoke 30 cigarettes a day, too... But it's 50-50 percent chance to damage yourself on tobacco, and probably a lot higher risk on alcohol...

Well, I thought the numbers would be interesting at least. So you could maybe adjust the intake of alcohol to a moderate level. Or have weeks or months with no drinking. And have moderate levels when drinking.

And moderation is always good.

I don't know how to give advice other than giving the numbers and give hints on what is unhealthy. Addiction is a lot more difficult subject...

Ok, good luck!

Hugs, B.
