The most plausible reason you go back to drinking is because you kept your circumstances the same. It could be a job that's causing you stress, maybe not having enough love in your life, maybe you're feeling a lack of purpose... whatever it is, if you don't change it you're not going to be able to quit. You may have periods where you are sober but if the pressures that caused you to drink before are not dealt with then you'll end up going back to it again.
