I came across another another small bit of evidence recently that suggests that pedophiles are men who were exposed to high levels of estrogen in the uterus, which would heighten our nurturing characteristics - which is to say, it is likely that people hate pedophiles because of our feminine characteristics.

(Of course, these things are complex, and every person has a mixture of "masculine" and "feminine" characteristics.)
