It's just possible that there are different causes. Gay men tend to have high levels of testosterone (and the effects of testosterone are not exactly what popular opinion thinks they are), and boy lovers are more likely to be hebephiles than girl lovers ... which is to say, they are perfectly normal in being attracted to adolescents.

Perhaps the little boy lovers have high levels of both testosterone and estrogen (or not). Perhaps the cause is another hormone or hormones that have not yet been identified. Still much work to do, but I came across something recently that surprised me - but still very tentative.
