I believe there are likely at least as many girl-attracted hebephiles as male-attracted hebephiles, but for some reason, the former are outnumbered by pedophiles in the GL community and the latter outnumber their pedophile counterparts in the BL community. I think there are distinct political reasons that partially explain this, one of which is the fact that girl-attracted hebephiles very often do not personally self-identify as a sub-group of MAAs (I have known a few AGLrs who very clearly do not identify as MAAs), and another being that many of those who do shy away from associating with girl-attracted pedophiles and instead form groups like Hebephilia Today. Nevertheless, it's notable that there appears to be a greater congregation of girl-attracted hebephiles on VoA at the present time than on GC.

Also, while it is indeed normal for adults to feel some measure of attraction to adolescents (who are, after all, young adults), what appears to distinguish hebephiles from "typical" adults is that hebes either 1) Have an attraction for adolescents that is equal to their attraction to adults; or, 2) They have an outright preference for adolescents on all levels over and above that of peers. Typical adults (i.e., teleiophiles) can be attracted to adolescents, and most certainly are much more often than they will publicly admit, and can even fall in love with them, but they clearly have a preference for peers as romantic partners. Further, when they do fall in love with a young adolescent, it often takes them by surprise--and even more so on the much rarer occasions they may fall in love with a pre-pubescent (but it can and does happen). Of course, it wouldn't take a genuine hebephile by surprise if they fell in love with a young adolescent in their preferred gender, because that is both common and expected for them/us.
