I am going to crosspost this with BC/GC because quite a few BL/GL sites are hosted with NearlyFreeSpeech.net

I used to have a site with them and suddenly I got a message from NFS (signed by Jeff, name coincides with NFS CEO) saying that I should provide them with a copy of my government ID for them to keep in storage encrypted. He then went on about how "an Internet guy" had made a complaint about my site and on how he believed everything was legal but because the kind of content I was providing had a high level of being registered under a fake name they wanted to make sure that was not the case and carried out this random check on me. According to him this "Internet guy" had nothing to do with the random ID check and he said something about how he had caused lots of troubles to him.

I don't know if it is related but after Googling NearlyFreeSpeech CEO name I found a Picpaste post accusing him of being a paedophile because his company was allowing paedophile sites.

I refused to provide NFS with a Government ID and moved my site elsewhere, NFS then refused to return the prepaid money held in my account and told me I could only transfer it to someone else so I decided to give it to NewGon.com another BL/GL site.

I now find out that Jeff has also required NewGon.com webmaster to provide a Government ID, I presume because of their BL/GL content. NewGon is moving out NFS too and it is down at the moment .

If you are hosting a BL/GL site with NearlyFreeSpeech.net you need to know that they will most likely ask for a copy of your Government ID as soon as they detect it, their "easy refund" policy is a joke, there will be no refund of unused funds if you fail to provide that ID.
