Zane Dawson, 38, walked free from the County Court on Thursday, but, having already spent 106 days in prison, was told by a judge he would be jailed for a further year if he broke an 18-month good behaviour bond.

Dawson pleaded guilty to one charge each of transmitting and receiving child pornography.

The court had earlier heard Dawson had entered a "strange fantasy land" of sexually-explicit text conversations, online chats and Skype communications.

County Court judge Gerard Mullaly said while there was no visual child pornography involved, Dawson "often set the tone" in conversations with others.

"What can be said is that what you wrote is truly disturbing," Judge Mullaly said in sentencing.

"It would sicken and bewilder all right-minded members of our community."
