Three-time offender jailed for child exploitation

A three-time child pornography offender hung his head and slumped forward to lean on the dock as he was sentenced to his second prison term.

John Louis Francis Schaper, 33, was jailed for two years, four months after admitting making child pornography images available to a police officer who was using a fictitious profile online.

Christchurch District Court Judge Paul Kellar increased the sentence because of his earlier convictions for similar offending.

He said Schaper was not diagnosed as having a mental disorder and he seemed to be a person of considerable intellect, but he was also seen as having a high risk of reoffending, with traits of Asperger's syndrome, self-entitlement, and "grandiosity".
