So they are much more likely to be hiding it strongly at the point when boys hit the age where they begin exploring that which is for the most part closer to puberty.

Boys' arousal is visible even if fully clothed. Girls' arousal is not.


(And yes, this is a "sapiens" innovation which the other chimp ethnicities don't share - in them girls' arousal is also visible)
