No, you haven't. The mind is not an organ or tissue which can catch an infectious agent, be poisoned chemically, broken physically, or degenerate through endogenous process.

If you have a group of, say, 1000 mentally ill people, don't you think eventually one of them will lash out and do something violent?

That would apply across the board to every subset of people you wanted to use.

And of course, causality. If 80 million guns in America are involved in 11 thousand murders a year, the cause of murders isn't guns, because 79 989 000 guns were not involved. If out of a thousand people selected by any group you like, one does something violent, the cause is not the feature by which you selected them because 999 did not do it.
