DDoSing is really no different to demonstrations and sit-ins at particular spots. Only instead of being conducted in the Real World they are conducted online. The effect is the same - preventing traffic to the place they are blocking.

It's effective to call attention, but on larger sites than GC - like big corporations and government are; this is completely uneffective to "bring them down." Unlike in the Real World, online the places can shoot back, and shoot to kill.

Of course, remember that Anonymous' biggest ops have been directed at the governments of Iran and Russia. If that doesn't tell you something about "oh, who could have a grudge against Iran and Russia," well
