And I mean this seriously. That's not their job. The police and DA's job is to get a conviction. The task of proving his innocence (or technically, of disproving his culpability) is the defense's job.

And this would be true even if all police and DAs were absolutely honest, impartial and respectful of Constitutional protections of due process. Of course, they aren't, so it's even worse. But it's true even of an ideal system manned by angels.

Actually, you've just added a small but important thing to my life's project.
