Historically, this comes because the original Feminism was allied to a lot of Progressive causes at the time of its inception and early successes - the late 19th century. Most of the Progressive causes were aimed at some form of quasi-utopian society which would correct all that Progressives perceived as failures of human nature. (Feminism is one example, but is not even the most "anti-natural" I can think of) Another significant part of Progressive causes, de facto, entrenched social positions of some at the expense of the others perceived as threats. This runs through the whole sets of labor, immigration and trade policies of Progressives (and in the parts of the USA where it was significant, of race.) and is also a part of the original Feminism - though as I mentioned, it's even clearer in other examples. But that is old history and few remember it today.
In the modern era, it's basically because you cannot prop up the rights of {X} without diminishing the rights of {-X}. There is no choice. Either everyone has exactly the same rights, but then, because we are all different, outcomes will necessarily be different; or we try to smooth out outcomes but that necessitates giving more rights to {X} than to {-X} even if that means re-creating the types of discrimination we used to complain about before and just inverting their direction. Most Feminists haven't hesitated in choosing the latter.
