My intention wasn't to stomp all over you, nor to espouse an absolute. However, there are statistics that illustrate conditions that defy the norm, thus most people's awareness.
The "typical" development of female reproductive capabilities is in line with your general understanding. The exceptions make noteworthy headlines ... occasionally.
There are large variations of size among humans but in all populations, men are larger on average than women. For most biologists this fact can be easily explained by the same processes that explain the size dimorphism in large mammals in general and in apes in particular.
