I know, it is hard to find exotic ingredients in the rural south. I have some cousins who moved to the south in order to obtain employment from the oil companies. One of my cousins daughter had a quince, so my family gone to visit. My aunt, first time in the states, joined us, and she comes from a very rural part of Mexico. Where my cousins lived, Wal Mart was the store to go grocery shopping. My aunt wanted to make tamales for everyone. Because Wal-Mart doesn't have a tortilleria and my aunt didn't wanted to use Maseca, we had to resort to old fashion methods to obtain masa for tamales. We had a grocery basket and a half filled of corn. We were noticed by every person we walked by.

My aunts thinks the US is a very strange place where people use cameras to watch people go to the bathroom and flush the toilet when they are done (automatic flush in toilets), and people wait in a long line to be thrown off a mountain by a log boat as a ritual to test faith (splash mountain).
