Interesting that we both framed the issue in such a similar way (Child/Parents/State), even if we didn't exactly reach the same conclusion.
Nitpick accepted on the matter of 2/3 vote and sex. I was taking for granted that the State would always be against (actual) rape. Clearly this framework needs adjustment if that isn't the case... On the runaway thing, my thinking is that most confused, angry teens will scare themselves straight after a night or two on the streets anyway. If by the time the authorities catch up with them they aren't ready to go back home voluntarily, there might be some serious shit going on in that home! So if it gets to that point, I do think the a third party (i.e. the State) should seriously consider the situation. That doesn't necessarily have to be an actual court case, but they should start from a neutral position, not from the assumption that "send 'em back" is the best solution almost every time. |
