I'm going to be brutally honest here. There are child molesters themselves who would have beat that guy down just as bad if not worse if they had walked in on it (remember Walter laying some brutal ground and pound on the predatory boy lover in The Woodsman?). I don't know what the circumstances were, if it was consensual, rape, coercive, whatever, but when you walk in on something like that, you probably assume the worst, unless you have prior knowledge and approve. It's primal instinct as a parent to protect one's child, even if it's hypocritical, overreacting, misguided, etc. It's the heat of the moment. I honestly can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing if it had been my son, whether right or wrong. Go ahead, jump all over me, but I'm just being honest about human nature and my own personal perspective.

In a perfect world, if your 12 year old son were gay and into older guys and he found a good one that he liked and who was good to him, then you could approve as a parent and the government would not interfere with your family's decision. But in an imperfect world where such things are illegal and socially unacceptable and you walk in on what looks like your child being abused, that's what's going to happen. And the guys who take penitentiary chances know that, which is why they take care to avoid being caught in the first place. This poor SOB was stupid/unlucky enough to get caught red handed. And speaking of Florida, if the dad had a legally registered gun he could have shot and killed him without being charged most likely (no jury would convict anyway), so this guy was lucky in that regard at least. This is why we follow the laws and conventions of society so we don't end up in situations like this.
