Let's keep some context in mind here. Here are some guesses:

Percent of online pedophile board participants who think there should be much lower age of consent or none at all: 75

Percent of everyone else in society who thinks that: 1

If some pedophiles believe that because of their own selfish desires, that surely is a non-starter. The others must believe that this is a fact about the nature of children and what is good for them, which is not a subject they have any special knowledge of that other people don't. In general sexual attraction to a class of people makes you less able to perceive their wants and needs accurately.

What a stunning and remarkable discrepancy! A reasonable hypothesis is that this is a case of "epistemic closure", where pedophiles who would like to believe this talk with each other, reinforcing their beliefs and ignoring other evidence. You can decide that all the pro-contact folks have seen the light and need to convince the benighted masses, but on the face of it, the more reasonable explanation is that you're missing some important things.

The Rind et al studies are excellent research. They suggest that sexual abuse hysteria exists and is a serious problem. But as far as I can tell, most scientists who accept that it is good research do not favor drastically lower ages of consent. Going from the scientific results to that policy conclusion is full of assumptions and values and is one that hardly anyone but pedophiles accept.
