"In general sexual attraction to a class of people makes you less able to perceive their wants and needs accurately."

Really?

So, you're saying that heterosexual women cannot be trusted to perceive the wants and needs of men as accurately as lesbians? that heterosexual men are less able to perceive the wants and needs of women as accurately as gay men?

This might create some problems. Sure, we can legislate that only gay men may form relationships with heterosexual women in the name of common decency, but the heterosexual women might be attracted to the gay men assigned to them - which will lead to disaster. Likewise with lesbians and heterosexual men. Meanwhile, bisexuals will be forced into a life of loneliness - for everyone's own good, of course.

Let us extend this further: I like little girls a lot and so I try to understand what they need and want because I want them to be happy (and because I selfishly prefer them to be happy with me), but I like dogs and cats only a little and I try to understand what they need and want only a little - and I don't like crocodiles one little bit, and far from trying to understand what they need and want I wouldn't be heartbroken if they went extinct. (Except for Schnappi, of course. He's cool.)

I am not attracted to sharks, porcupines, or bristlecone pines either - and I barely care what happens to them. I certainly don't spend any time trying to perceive their needs or wants.

Now, I may misperceive what little girls need and want - but surely even my misconceptions will lead me closer to meeting their needs and wants than not giving a damn what happens to them.

So, explain again exactly - why is it that adults who don't give a damn about children will better perceive their needs and wants than I will? Why will they be better able to perceive these things when they aren't even looking? Why won't their desires (e.g., to pursue money, prestige, alcohol, or power) get in the way of meeting the needs and wants of children they hardly care about?

I anxiously await to hear more about your fascinating theory.
