Hey, GAK. I think we see eye-to-eye on this. If you check out the source which I will list below, you can hear the father on the 9-1-1 tape saying that he "loved" the suspect up until "15 minutes ago". This was a kid from the neighborhood who he seemingly had known since he was somewhere around his son's age now and he was shocked and appalled by what he saw. Given the familiarity however, I do think that sheds new light on the level of violence involved. It becomes much more of a revenge factor and less of instinctual putting down a threat to protect ones child.
But yes, it's understandable how this father lost his mind in the heat of the moment. It's possible that the father, while still upset at the suspect and deeply hurt by his actions, may regret beating him that badly. Or not. He may even wish that he had killed him. Such feelings may be expounded by the law enforcement/psychiatric response which will unfortunately try to turn the son into an eternal victim. http://ktla.com/2014/07/18/daytona-beach-father-beats-man-unconscious-after-catching-him-molesting-son-police/ • ( http link ) Father Beats Man Unconscious After Catching Him Molesting Son [Anonymouse] |
