Even the gay population is only about 1% of active and/or self-identified persons in the U.S. I can't imagine true MAPs (as opposed to situational offenders, who can't be IDed before they act out and therefore apparently aren't a threat to kids...ahem) constitute more than that either. So, I gotta agree on that one. Of course, the fact that the article places them in the 'potential threat' category is all kinds of wrong. Everyone is a potential threat, whether attracted to kids or not, and the biggest marker for potential sexual abuse is whether or not a child lives in a home with a non-biological parent. But, of course, they're never going to make that claim--there would be a huge backlash if they did. So instead we get scapegoated. Fuck 'em.
