"Then you have the son of God who was sacrificed to save humanity from certain damnation. Isn't it fucked up that God would require human sacrifice?"

Now you're guilty of the Arian Heresy here.

Remember, Christ was 100% divine.

He was also 100% human too. But I'll leave the mathematical ramifications up to those go-getter coaching types who ask folks to deliver 110% effort.

Anywho, the relevant concept here was redemption. Redemption is the act of a master ( or someone from the social class of masters ) buying a slave in order to free him. The notion is that the slave cannot free himself. Only someone outside slavery can redeem a slave.

Well, the OT God was always a vengeful sort with a long list of dietary laws, clothing restrictions and other sins worth killing someone over. The list was so huge that it was impossible to be a mere human and not be offending God with every breath.

So Xtianity offers a way out by saying that the record can be wiped clean; but only if someone not in the condition of being a sinner pays the redemption price.

Of course the human sacrifice comparison is obvious. And this made it easier for many who had slaughtered thousands to appease their Gods to "get it."
