Everyone who speaks English knows that they have a gender free pronoun available. ;p

The language is functional, not bound by arbitrary rules.

We are taught that there are the rules and the exception. Those who insist that "they" or "them" doesn't follow the rules ignore that much of accepted English doesn't abide by its own rules.

Many arguments made by grammar nazis are made in ignorance of a long pedigree for accepted use. The singular "they" has been around since 1489. Its been proper English accepted by Shakespeare and his kind. So I'm not going to take the advice against it by some "purist" whose attempts to remove it are the actual innovation.

And I think that anyone who needs it should be able to use it if they want to. :)
