"If there is no god, perhaps future generations can become a reasonable facsimile with sufficient technology and (among other things) the advantage of our experience - and once they have done so, perhaps they can resurrect those of former generations who are willing to participate in their new world."

This notion from Omega-Point Theory reminds me of two things; both pertaining to ethical selectivity and eternity.

The first is a rather acid piece by William S. Burroughs entitled "Civilian Defense." In a Swiftian progression he goes from the Guardian Angels patrolling the subways to the extermination of Antis as an impediment to man's ability to gain immortality by departing the Earth's inevitable decline.

"“And what has prevented us from realizing our potential for space travel? Who is keeping us from realizing our biological and spiritual destiny? These people are known as shits. They can’t mind their own business, Because they have no business of their own to mind anymore than a smallpox virus. The mark of a basic shit is that he has to be RIGHT. And in order to be RIGHT he has to make someone else WRONG. We know that the shits will take action against us since they are artifacts specifically designed to keep us out of space.”

He argues that if you can't trust another not to try to sabotage your cryogenic sleep on the way to the next habitable Star, then you must eliminate them or leave them to die with the planet they have f*cked up.

The second is an argument for the ethical treatment of animals as moral patients based on the notion of the technological singularity.

That if we are exploiting the higher animals and dismissing their suffering we are modeling what we can expect to see when the transhuman overtakes us and leaves us behind in the dust. If we hope to be treated well by those who are as far above us as we are above insects in intelligence, then we should model what we hope for.

This also implies that humans who reject and hurt each other should not expect to be allowed to transcend. But that humans who have compassion for others and want to assist them along might be allowed by the transhuman to ascend.
