Do not violate the law. But don't cooperate in any way not required upon the advice of a competent lawyer. The moment you think they're on your side, or have no interest in ruining your life if you're innocent is the moment you've lost. And not just to them either.

Don't ever agree with the cops or accept even something as innocuous as a caution unless a lawyer tells you that you must.

Follow the laws. But don't do the cops work for them by admitting anything or accepting anything unless your lawyer tells you that you must.
