I think people should be free to state what they believe, but that other people should be free to judge those beliefs, in part, on how well-supported by evidence they are. I think a lot of things about a lot of things (of particular relevance here, I have opinions about 'people in general') and I'd be pretty pissed if someone said I couldn't state what I believed unless I could cite a study backing it up. To the extent that Dante is requiring that of you, if he is at all, then I'd think he's being unfair. However, if I make a claim without any logic or evidence to back it up, I wouldn't expect everyone to automatically accept it as truth, either. When you do that, you should expect to have your views challenged.
