"None of that can be said of laws against sexual contact with children, which is a) overwhelmingly supported by society, and b) not self-undermining."

qtns noted the ad populum.

But I'd say that box office attendance and posters on teen girls walls evidence the fact that "children" fantasize about sex with adults as a matter of routine.

That the law is forced to intercede so often in the case of prying two biological adults apart because one of them is a child.

Heck, the law is presently trying to force a former child partner to pay to raise his adult lover's offspring by him.

That society still remembers how old the great-grandparents were when they first hooked up.

As to the self-undermining bit; the law knows that in every regard where it counts that the bio-adults ARE adults. The hypocrisy of the selective choice to say that she cannot consent to sext as a child but can be prosecuted for it as adult is SO self undermining that many folks want to start exempting one end or the other from the hypocrisy of it.

And before you can argue to merely shift the AoC slightly without examining the logic too closely, the work of nullifying the laws of nature by fiat has already started the fine work of questioning whether ANY number is just and why.
