I told a young mom today that I was going to have some kids overnight at my house this weekend and that I was gonna set up a tent in the back yard and let them sleep outside. She asked if I was sleeping out there with them. No, I'm not. She accused me of irresponsibly putting them at risk of 'the people that steal kids'; the pedophiles that prowl the neighborhoods at night looking for just that opportunity.

She additionally pointed out that pedophiles use cell phone tapping technology to know when parents are running late to pick up kids and where they will be alone so they can kidnap and rape them. She told me this happens "all the time".

I have not run into this deep of irrational thinking before and was caught off guard. All I could say was that I felt they would be okay and they were looking forward to their 'camping adventure'. I had already promised them. I would be 20' away, sleeping in my own bed with the door open, very much within yelling range when the pedo vampires arrive.

[so ironic that she insisted I sleep out there with them. Ha, she would have the wolf guarding the sheep]


I would welcome any suggestions on how to respond to this woman.
