"constantly baffled by some people's total ineptitude with computers."
I've long since stopped being baffled by, though I do end up frustrated as often as not, especially when I'm the one called to fix the outcomes. "I was tidying up the folders on the computer, and now it won't start!" By "tidying up" they meant making folders "just like in the filing cabinet" to sort alphabetically, and moving programs and files into them. Didn't get very far, but enough to mangle a few of the applications they frequently used. Just one example out of too many. "why would he print off a one page story of that nature?" To read in bed, maybe? Computers and other electronics don't tend to like being wet and sticky, even old folks and technophobes know that, since they can handle some simpler devices; electricity's been around much longer than the PC in the office or living room. I've been around enough older folks using computers who have learned just enough to be dangerous, and the whole story sounds sadly typical of somebody who fits that description. |
