Back when I was first getting to know my girl, she was rifling through my jacket pockets this one time when she happened across a bracelet I had made with some gimp years before.

"What is this?" she asked.

I told her it was something I had made, and she asked, "Can I keep it?"

So I said, "Of course you can."

Some weeks later, she presented me with a baggie full of little coloured elastic bands.

"What are these?" I asked.

"They're Rainbow Loom," she told me.

"Are you going to make something?" I asked, and she nodded.

She requested the use of my fingers for the task, because they were bigger, and that way she could use both hands. We sat cross-legged facing each ther for about half an hour, in relative silence (she isn't very talkative most of the time), as she twisted band after band around my fingers to make the end result.

"I'm making this for you, you know." She said suddenly.

I looked into her eyes and smiled, and said, "Thank you," hoping that conveyed how much it meant to me.

She smiled back, of course.

But here's the thing that really stuck:

She then crawled back to her bag, and rifled through until she found the gimp bracelet she had procured from me weeks ago.

She slipped it around her tiny wrist. "See?" She said with a huge smile. "I still have mine."

I still wear "mine" every single day.
