I have never thought some media is about us. That just doesn't follow. We simply identify with the themes present and wish it was about us.

Law and Order SVU is not about us. It is about the specialization of police and the increase in its assigned tasks, and how this creates personal insanity and procedural corruption even in police officers who started out as reasonable and dedicated guys just trying to rid society of truly bad guys. But it's not about us.

Woodsman is not about us. It's about the proliferation of the prison system across Amerika, the country which imprisons most people in the world, and what it causes for society at large when the masses of ex cons are released. Particularly when the huge number of laws in Amerika means that many such ex cons are not really dangerous but the ex con label still induces people to treat them as if they were. But it's not about us.

Hard Candy is not about us. It's about bullying and a little about how the pervasivity of social contact online facilitates acts of bullying, by facilitating contact between people who wouldn't have contact if limited to the offline world. But it's not about us.
