A third party observation (or opinion if you like) of this discussion leads me to understand that attempts at rationalising the subject are creating an even greater & unecessary layer of complexity.
But it sure is effective at passing the time.

If we peel all of this back to what essentially exists through physical observation and not moral interpretation, then what we see is people (yes PEOPLE, NOT children & adults) expressing the choice for each others company.

The outcome of that interaction is quite irrelevant to what is at hand in the present. And is certainly not indicative of any truth.

Debate the subject to your hearts content, but the fact of the matter is PEOPLE wish to do this. And that will never change, regardless of how deeply it cuts into your sense of morality.

The human spirit, for whatever purpose it serves, cannot be stopped. And I think the fact we have slaughtered each other in cold blood for thousands of years is testament to that.
