"What about someone who fits the stereotypes and is perceived that way by people who know him in RL? Or someone who is already hated by everyone?"

We must face two facts.

There will always be those who, while not criminal, conform to every aspect of what makes the str8s cringe. Its unreasonable to demanding that the Castro cease holding its Hallowe'en celebration just because a "bear" dressed in a nun's habit kissing a leather queen freaks out the str8s. Telling the queers that their movement must be neutered and antiseptic before being acceptable just says you aren't ready for them at all. And using flamboyance as an argument against granting rights shows that the rights deniers were just itching for an excuse to justify what they knew they were already going to do.

AND.

We can't demand that those asking for rights stick to one issue alone just in order to not "tarnish" the movement with the unpopularity of outside stances. Pedos are humans, and therefore have opinions about politics, religion, the arts, &tc. We can certainly point out that as these views vary heavily its pretty clear that these stances are independent of being a Pedo. You don't HAVE to be a conservative to be a Pedo, or a Liberal. But those who already knew that they didn't want to listen to us will use any extraneous "controversial" stances to deny us a voice; thereby demanding that we not promote what we believe is good or critique what we believe is bad.

( Of course we should expect radical stances to cluster as much as they did in any previous civil rights denied community. When you are forced to take an outsider stance to argue that you are human, you might not end up allergic to other views outside the mainstream. )

No movement which has made progress has ever been able to police its own people with some sort of purity test. When people are ready to accept that there is nothing wrong with civil rights for a group, they will see that some of what they hated was unfounded, and that greed, laziness, and having a thin skin are not the properties of Jews, Hispanics and Women. We can recognize civil rights even when those who are the precise embodiment of the stereotype exist within each stereotyped community.
