Let's look at the generation who came about BEFORE the pedo-hysteria.

I hypothesize that they are MUCH more accepting of affectionate relationships between adults and unrelated children in general than the boomer generation among others.

If I tell my Grandma about my LGF - without using the word pedophile and without denoting my sexual attraction to her - I might get a really nice response.

Grandma: "Who's _____?"

Rainbow: "Oh, she's this little kid I know from __________. I became her friend through _______________ and now we have this really strong bond. We've kind of become attached to one another. She's very important to me."

Grandma: "Oh, that's sweet, Rainbow. I'm sure she really looks up to you."

Whereas the boomers would probably be so wrapped up in the hysteria that they would look down upon this sort of close relationship between a child and an unrelated man.

That's not to say the hysteria hasn't had its effect on the elderly folks; I'm sure mentioning the word "pedo" would probably conjure up all kinds of images of horrific abusers an killers and other miscellaneous psychopaths they've seen on TV, and Grandma would suddenly proclaim that Rainbow must be some kind of sick child molester who should stay away from children.
