I will read that post carefully, and react to it. But first, I would like to address this statement of yours, Markie: Why? Because anyone who agrees with him on the contact issue pretty much gets a free pass on their brand of insanity, while Ethan and I get criticized for every little thing. First off, let me read what qtns said first. Secondly, in all honesty, Markie, you have been given a free pass to behave badly and say the nastiest things against your own community on this board numerous times. Despite all the hostility you have been subjected to here, more often than not you have said or done things that brought the proverbial axe down on you. But regardless, you have still been offered support when you needed it, and a degree of tolerance and forgiveness that clearly baffles many newbies who are not familiar with your history here, and the complex nature of it. You need to expect to be opposed on the things you say and do by some, because not everyone is going to be inclined to ignore those particular tirades of yours when you get in your dark state of mind. Finally, the contact issue is a volatile one that tends to lead to heated debates, even when all participants are trying to maintain civility throughout. Secondly, I think many on the board react quite positively to you when you're talking about subjects that are informative rather than combative, like literature, cinema, or girl and GL culture in general. As for Ethan, unlike you he is pretty much a one trick pony who seems to have little interest in doing anything other than attacking the pro-choice majority on the board over the contact issue. He has shown a flagrant disregard for any scientific evidence that does not bolster the mainstream position. If almost every little thing he talks about is connected to starting these arguments, then of course he is going to be taken to task for "every little thing." At least you have generally had an interest in being a part of this community outside of bickering over the more controversial and contentious issues. At this point in time, the same cannot be said for him. And note that Dante is the Cult of Personality here; he's the one who everyone looks at for guidance and leadership now that you don't post as much as he used to. Those who are particularly outspoken and "loud" about the stance that happens to be the majority stance will naturally be looked upon that way. Just as I'm sure either you or Ethan would have a similar "Cult of Personality" style following if either of you posted on a forum that was predominantly anti-choice. Dante and I have certainly disagreed on other issues, such as economics and the materialist view, despite our basic agreement on issues related to civil liberties. |
